Collection: Filing Cabinets

A filing cabinet gives documents a dependable place beyond the stacks on a desk. At Office Goods Australia, the Filing Cabinets range covers small A4 drawer units, movable under-desk cabinets and larger floor-standing designs, with different door, drawer and lock arrangements. That gives a home office room to start small and a busier workplace options for keeping more records together. The best choice is the one that fits both the papers you use and the path they take from active work to storage.

Choose the cabinet's footprint first

A slim desktop cabinet brings drawers close to the work surface without taking a full wall. Under-desk units make use of the space beneath a workstation, and rolling cabinets can be repositioned as the room changes. Larger wooden or steel floor-standing cabinets suit a dedicated filing area where several groups of records need a fixed home. Check the available height and depth as well as the floor area, because a cabinet only helps if its drawers or doors can open comfortably in the space you have.

Match the opening to the filing task

Drawer cabinets keep papers in separate layers and let you pull out the group you need. Door-fronted and shelf-style units suit boxes, folders or other office material that needs a broader opening. Some models add combination or key locks; others prioritise quick access. A4-focused drawer formats suit common sheets, while a larger cabinet may be more useful when files share space with office supplies. Choose the opening style by what must go in and how often someone needs to retrieve it.

Make the cabinet part of a working system

An office can leave current forms in a desk tray and move completed paperwork into labelled cabinet drawers. At home, a compact unit can keep household and work documents apart without taking over the room. For shared spaces, think about who needs access and where the cabinet will sit before deciding on wheels, doors or locks. A cabinet works hardest when each file has an obvious return place, making the next search faster than the last one.
